Beginners - Open Strings to Grade 3
Date: Sunday 13 December 2026
Time: 11am-4.30pm
Who is it for?
This workshop is open to beginner string players (violin, viola, cello and bass) of primary school age (minimum age 5) who have been playing for at least one full term up to those working around Grade 3 level.
Please note: grades are given as a guide - no exams need to have been taken.
What will we be doing?
During the day, we will be playing together as a group. We’ll also be developing our musicianship and getting creative with our instruments all with a Wintery theme!
Who will be teaching us?
The workshop will be delivered by the Oasby Music Group Team Laura Gardiner (violin), Rosie Spinks (cello), Erin Vinter (viola), Rowan Cozens (musicianship/viola) and regular OMG Guest Tutor Jo Bradley (double bass)
How much does it cost?
The cost for the workshop is £60, which can be paid in full on registration or in instalments. A deposit of £30 is required to confirm your place. If you would like to enquire about bursary support, or to pay in instalments, please contact us. The course is non-refundable.

Intermediate and Advanced - Grade 4 to Diploma Level (separate courses)
Dates: Sunday 20 December 2026
Time: 10am-5pm
Who is it for?
This workshop is open to string players up to age 21 (violin, viola, cello and double bass) who are working from Grade 4 to post-Diploma level. The Intermediate Course will cater for players grades 4-6, and Advanced for Grade 6+. Please note: grades are given as a guide and no exams need to have been taken.
What will we be doing?
During the workshop, we will be working together as two string orchestras on repertoire including Corelli’s Christmas Concerto (Advanced), selections from Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker (Intermediate) and we’ll then combine to rehearse and perform arrangements of well-known Christmas/Wintery tunes! We’ll also be spending time in sectionals developing our technique and performance skills.

The course will be led by Hilary Sturt (violin), Clare Thompson (violin), Laura Gardiner (violin), Clifton Harrison (viola), Rowan Cozens (viola), Ian Pressland (cello), Rosie Spinks (cello) and Jo Bradley (double bass) and our Oasby Music Group Assistant Tutors.

Pastoral Care
During the workshop, the young people will be looked after when they are not in rehearsals by a pastoral team who are DBS checked. A first aider will also be on site each day.

Grantham Prep School is conveniently located just a short walk or car journey from Grantham Train Station. Grantham is on the LNER East Coast Mainline, with good links to London, Leeds, Nottingham and York. By car, Grantham Prep School is just off the A1.
